Eclipse
Lyrics
Mirror mirror on the wall
Is that my darker side I saw?
Suppressed and waiting to break out
The voice keeps getting way too loud
Killer killer of my mind
Have you come out to turn the tide?
To face my past I can't escape
A new moon's risen, no more wait
Sunrise, chrysantemums full bloom
Sunset, dreadfull screams, new moon
This your new phase about to start?
Tell me where does lie your heart?
In life, in death, in light or dark?
Tell me who will win this war?
How much blood will drop
Till this bloodbath finally stops?
One must win and one must die
Tell me who will win this fight?
I cannot make any sense
Like my body's in a trance
And my eyes begin to fade
I wake up and I hold my blade
I wonder is it really true
I'm born to be rebuilt anew
I've killed myself, times again
I feel like this could be the end
Sunrise, chrysantemums full bloom
Sunset, dreadfull screams, new moon
This your new phase about to start?
Tell me where does lie your heart?
In life, in death, in light or dark?
Tell me who will win this war?
How much blood will drop
Till this bloodbath finally stops?
One must win and one must die
Tell me who will win this fight?
As I slowly drift away
The colours all begin to change
Bright and blue all fades to black
The inbetween is finally back
Everything to ashes
Nothing left behind
Blood over this wasteland
That's the status of my mind
Sunrise, chrysantemums full bloom
Sunset, dreadfull screams, new moon
Eversinking in the sorrow-words out of my lips
The phasing finds its climax in this last eclipse
This your new phase about to start?
Tell me where does lie your heart?
In life, in death, in light or dark?
Tell me who will win this war?
How much blood will drop
Till this bloodbath finally stops?
Origin
Eclipse was born out of the uncertainty that can move even the human foundation. In fact, the song also falls under Music of the Mind, as does Gonna Be Okay. These are impulse songs that arise in spontaneity. So it was for Eclipse, whose chorus I just suddenly came up with on a guitar Wednesday night in one of my low points.
For if I must name one thing, it is that scars will not heal, at least not fast enough. Eclipse, then, is about my own vulnerability that I still experience. The dichotomy that often plays in my head when my insecurities are touched, when the scars are touched again.
That battle that is waged then takes bizarre amounts of mental energy, and thus very much mental health. It is an actual bloodbath where everything is indeed burned off.
The only question is who wins such a battle. For if the one ravaged by pain, depression and grief wins, then a moment of ultimate darkness dawns. The heart, in that case, lies in death. But even if the old person loses, the damage will not go away. Waging a duel will always cause there to be very much internal pain involved. The thing is; there is no real winner, only a loser.
This song is about the doubts, insecurities and scars people can have, along with the pain that comes with fighting against yourself.Â
